Further expansion at M Greene Ltd
M Greene Ltd, Colchester’s foremost tool and cutter grinding specialist continues to expand.
They have now invested in another Schneeberger 5-axis CNC regrinding machine which brings the total of 5-axis Schneeberger machines up to four, alongside an already extensive plant last.
Although a significant number of new solid carbide cutting tools are produced at M Greene’s for an ever hungry market, inclusive of a new and growing export market, M Greene Ltd have chosen not to ignore their original core business of tool regrinding and tool sharpening.
As David Lawrence, Managing Director explained, “We have always taken great pride in our reputation as high quality tool re-sharpening and tool refurbishment specialists and like to hear that our service as well as the finished quality is what brings our customers back time and time again. As the manufacture of new carbide tooling continues to expand, I was a little concerned that we should not allow it to cut into our core business, so felt that it was a wise move, to expand the machine capacity in this area and take on a new member of the team, trained to work with me on these specialist machines.
As it has now proven, it was an opportune moment to purchase the Schneeberger as M Greene Ltd have taken a number of new customers on, and the new machining capacity has allowed no shrinkage in performance.
When asked if David was likely to move on to his fifth Schneeberger machine the reply had clearly already been considered, “Unlikely as space is at a premium - we could seek new premises but at present we are well placed outside Colchester and right next to the A12 which is a perfect road link to both our regional and nationally located UK customer base. No I think the next phase will probably be to introduce a shift system, especially if it continues to plan, as it is at present”.
Certainly no sitting back and enjoying the ride for David and his team
